Tamil Nadu has 447 engineering colleges participating in TNEA counselling in 2026,
spread across 39 districts. That’s one of the largest pools of engineering seats of any
state in India — which is good news for choice, but it also makes picking the right college
harder.

447 colleges — but not all are open to you
The number of colleges you can realistically get into depends on three things: your
cutoff mark, your community, and the branch you
want. A rank that opens 200 colleges for one branch may open only 30 for another. So the useful
question isn’t “how many colleges are there” — it’s “how many can I get.”

The colleges cluster around a few hubs. Coimbatore alone has 54; the Chennai belt
