During TNEA counselling you don’t pick colleges by name — you enter college codes
(and branch codes) into your choice list. Getting a code wrong can cost you a seat, so it’s worth
understanding them before your slot opens.
What is a TNEA college code?
Every college participating in TNEA has a unique numeric college code (for
example, a four-digit number). Each branch within a college also has a short
branch code (like CS for Computer Science). Your choice list is really a list of
college-code + branch-code pairs, read strictly in the order you enter them.
How to find a college by its code — or a code by college name
The easiest way is the free TNEAhelp college list:
type a college name or a district and open any college to see its code, all its branch codes, and
closing cutoffs from 2017–2025. Every college has its own page — so if you have a code like 2643 or
3021 and want to know which college it is, or you know the college and want its code, it’s a few
seconds either way.
Why the codes matter for your choice list
- Accuracy: one mistyped digit points to a different college. Double-check every
code before you submit. - Order: counselling reads your codes top to bottom and stops at the first one it
can allot — so the sequence is as important as the codes themselves. - Completeness: keep a written sheet of your college-code + branch-code pairs to
carry into the hall.
