district, travel time, hostel need and family proximity all shape a decision you will live
with for four years.
Tamil Nadu has 447 engineering colleges spread across 39 districts. This

Why district matters in your choice list
- Home district advantage: staying near home cuts hostel and travel cost
sharply — often the difference between an affordable and an unaffordable seat. - Cluster strengths: some districts concentrate strong colleges. Coimbatore
alone has 54 engineering colleges; the Chennai belt (Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur)
together has close to 90. - Placement geography: colleges near industrial and IT hubs can mean easier
internships and campus access for recruiters.
